Ingredients:

  • 4 large potatoes
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Salt to taste
  • Optional: Garlic powder, paprika, or herbs for seasoning

Instructions:

  1. Wash and peel the potatoes, then cut them into thin strips approximately 1/4 inch thick.
  2. Soak the potato strips in a bowl of cold water for at least 5 minutes to remove excess starch.
  3. Drain and dry the potatoes thoroughly using paper towels. Ensuring the potatoes are dry is essential for crispiness.
  4. In a deep fryer or a heavy-bottomed pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Carefully add the potato strips in batches to the hot oil, avoiding overcrowding, and fry for about 5-7 minutes until they start to turn golden.
  6. Remove the fries from the oil using a slotted spoon and let them drain on a baking sheet lined with paper towels.
  7. Increase the oil temperature to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Fry the potatoes a second time, in batches again, for about 2-3 minutes until they are a deep golden brown and crispy.
  9. Remove from the oil and drain on fresh paper towels. Sprinkle with salt immediately or add optional seasonings while still hot.
  10. Serve the French fries hot with your choice of dip or enjoy them on their own.
